Discovering the Massif des Bauges


The Massif des Bauges, located between Annecy and Chambéry, is a paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. With its dramatic mountain scenery, lush forests, and charming villages, this park is perfect for hiking, cycling, and enjoying the great outdoors. The park spans over 83,000 hectares and is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, making it an ideal destination for eco-tourists and families.

1. La FĂ©claz


One of our favorite spots in the park is La FĂ©claz, a charming alpine village known for its stunning views and outdoor activities. In winter, it transforms into a ski resort, while in summer, it becomes a haven for hikers and mountain bikers.


Opening Hours: La FĂ©claz is accessible year-round, with the best time to visit being from June to September for hiking.


Ticket Prices: Access to the village is free, but various activities like skiing or mountain biking may have separate fees.


During our visit to La FĂ©claz, we took a leisurely hike to the Col de la Buffaz, where the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains left us speechless. The trail was well-marked and easy to follow, making it perfect for all skill levels. As we reached the summit, we were greeted with a breathtaking vista that felt like a reward for our efforts. We set up a small picnic with some local cheese and bread, soaking in the beauty and sharing laughs. It was moments like these that reminded us of the magic of nature and how it brings us together.



2. Les Aillons-Margériaz


Another must-visit attraction in the park is Les Aillons-Margériaz, a popular destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts. The area offers numerous trails for hiking and mountain biking, as well as breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks.


Opening Hours: Les Aillons-Margériaz is open year-round, with the most popular hiking season being late spring to early fall.


Ticket Prices: Access to the park is free, but some activities may require fees.


We were particularly excited to try out the “Sentier des Hêtres”, a beautiful trail lined with ancient beech trees. The hike was enchanting; we felt like we were walking through a fairytale. Along the way, we discovered hidden waterfalls and unique rock formations, which made for great photo opportunities. The highlight of our day was reaching a scenic viewpoint where we could see the entire valley below. We spent some time there, breathing in the fresh mountain air and enjoying the tranquility. It was a perfect reminder of how nature can provide us with peace and adventure simultaneously.



3. Parc Animalier de la Grande Jeanne


No trip to the Massif des Bauges would be complete without a visit to the Parc Animalier de la Grande Jeanne. This wildlife park is dedicated to the preservation of local species and offers an educational experience for visitors of all ages.


Opening Hours: The park is open from April to October, with varying hours depending on the season.


Ticket Prices: Admission costs around €8 for adults and €5 for children.



As we wandered through the park, we encountered various animals native to the region, including deer, marmots. We were lucky enough to catch a feeding session for the local birds of prey, which was fascinating. We learned about their habitats and conservation efforts, leaving us with a deeper appreciation for the wildlife around us. The park was not only fun but also an educational experience, reinforcing the importance of protecting our natural surroundings.
