Due to potentially elevated levels of benzene, Unilever USA has issued a voluntary product recall to consumers for select lots of dry cleaning shampoo aerosol products manufactured from Dove, Nexxus, Suave, TIGI (Rockaholic and Bed Head) and TRESemmé through October 2021.
Unilever recently announced a voluntary recall of 19 popular dry cleaning aerosol products sold in the U.S. due to concerns about benzene, a chemical known to cause cancer.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, exposure to benzene, which is classified as a human carcinogen.
It can occur by inhalation, ingestion or through skin contact and can cause cancer, including leukemia and blood cancers.
Unilever said it withdrew the products "out of an abundance of caution" and that the company has not received any reports of adverse events related to the recall to date.
The recalled products were manufactured before October 2021 and retailers have been notified to remove the affected products from their shelves.

The company said in a press release that the recall does not affect Unilever or other products under its brand.

The recall was made with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Unilever urges consumers to immediately stop using the affected aerosol dry cleaning products and to visit the company's website for eligible product reimbursement.
