Hey, Lykkers! As we set out to explore Gozo Island, we can't help but feel the thrill of adventure and discovery.
This charming Maltese island is filled with stunning landscapes, rich history, and unique experiences just waiting for us to uncover.
One of the most iconic spots on Gozo is the Azure Window, which, although sadly collapsed in 2017, still holds a special place in our hearts. We visited the site where this natural limestone arch once stood, taking in the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding cliffs. Standing there, we imagined the many sunsets and photographs captured at this stunning landmark. The area remains a popular spot for visitors, and we enjoyed walking along the nearby trails to capture photos of the beautiful coastline. While the Azure Window is no longer, the entrance is free, and we can explore the surrounding area at any time, with many scenic walks available year-round.
Next, we headed to the capital city of Gozo, Victoria, to explore the magnificent Citadel. This historic fortress offers panoramic views of the island and is a testament to Gozo's rich history. As we wandered through the narrow streets, we felt the charm of the old town and discovered various museums and quaint shops. The Citadel is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and the entry fee is €5 per person, which includes access to several museums within the complex. We spent hours exploring the different exhibitions, learning about Gozo's past, and enjoying the stunning views from the ramparts.
When planning our trip to Gozo, it's essential to consider transportation options. We found that renting a car or scooter was the best way to explore the island at our own pace. Public buses are also available, but they can be less convenient for reaching more remote areas. Additionally, don’t forget to bring sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes, as we spent a lot of time exploring the great outdoors.
No trip to Gozo would be complete without trying some local delicacies! We enjoyed sampling traditional Gozitan dishes like Rabbit Stew (a local specialty) and Bigilla, a delicious bean dip. Many restaurants offer outdoor seating with stunning views, making our dining experience even more memorable.
Our time on Gozo Island was filled with unforgettable moments, from stunning natural landscapes to rich history and culture. With its friendly locals and captivating attractions, Gozo is a destination we can't recommend enough. So, let’s pack our bags and get ready for our next adventure on this enchanting island!
