Hello, Lykkers! Have you ever stumbled upon a breathtaking place that felt like a scene straight out of a movie?

That's exactly how we felt when we visited Velká Amerika, a stunning limestone canyon in the heart of the Czech Republic, known for its dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear waters.

Unveiling Velká Amerika

As we ventured into Velká Amerika, we were immediately captivated by its unique landscape. This natural wonder, often referred to as the "Grand Canyon of the Czech Republic," features towering cliffs that rise over 100 meters above a turquoise lake. The area is rich in history; it was once a limestone quarry, and the remnants of old mining structures can still be seen throughout the site.

One of the best ways to explore this captivating canyon is by following the well-marked hiking trails that wind around the lake. We spent hours walking along the paths, stopping frequently to take in the breathtaking views and snap photos. The park is open year-round, and there are no entrance fees, making it an affordable adventure for all nature lovers.

During our hike, we discovered several lookout points, each offering stunning panoramas of the lake and cliffs. One particular viewpoint, aptly named "Kozí Hřbety," provided a picture-perfect backdrop that made it impossible to resist taking dozens of photos. We could feel the refreshing breeze and hear the soothing sounds of nature, truly a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Exploring Nearby Attractions

While in the area, we also made a point to visit the nearby Karlštejn Castle, a stunning medieval fortress just a short drive from Velká Amerika. The castle, built in the 14th century, is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, with ticket prices starting at around €12. We marveled at its impressive architecture and rich history, wandering through the beautiful grounds and taking in the surrounding countryside.

After exploring the castle, we returned to Velká Amerika to enjoy a picnic by the lake. We packed our favorite snacks and took advantage of the designated picnic areas, surrounded by the serene beauty of nature. It was the perfect way to relax after a day of hiking and sightseeing.

A Comfortable Stay

For those looking to extend their stay, we found the charming Hotel Vltava located nearby in the village of Sázava. This cozy hotel offers comfortable rooms starting at around €80 per night, providing an ideal base for exploring both Velká Amerika and Karlštejn Castle. The hotel features an on-site restaurant that serves delicious local cuisine, allowing us to refuel after a long day of adventures.

The staff were incredibly welcoming, sharing tips about the best hiking trails and attractions in the area. The hotel’s proximity to both Velká Amerika and Karlštejn Castle made it convenient for us to explore without the stress of long commutes.
