Hey Lykkers! If you're looking for a dreamy getaway, Iseltwald is a slice of paradise we just couldn’t get enough of.
Nestled on the shores of Lake Brienz, this charming Swiss village offers breathtaking scenery and a peaceful atmosphere that we can't wait to share with you.
One of our favorite activities was wandering along the lakeside promenade. The views of the turquoise waters set against the backdrop of the majestic Alps were simply mesmerizing. We spent hours enjoying the serenity, snapping photos, and just soaking in the natural beauty. If you’re planning a visit, the promenade is accessible year-round and free to explore!
Iseltwald Castle, although not open for tours, can be admired from the outside and is a perfect backdrop for photos. The castle's picturesque architecture dates back to the 12th century, and its stunning setting is ideal for a quick visit. While there are no specific opening hours or ticket prices, we recommend visiting early in the morning or late afternoon for the best light and fewer crowds.
Another must-see is the Iseltwald Beach. This small, tranquil spot is perfect for swimming or just lounging by the water. While there is no entry fee, we suggest bringing your own snacks or a picnic to enjoy on the grassy banks. The beach is open to the public from May to September.
No trip is complete without indulging in some local flavors! We had the chance to try Älplermagronen, a hearty Swiss dish made from pasta, potatoes, and melted cheese, served with a side of applesauce. It was incredibly comforting, and we found it for around CHF 22 at the local restaurant, Hotel Restaurant Eichen.
Another delightful option is Rösti, a crispy potato dish that's a Swiss staple. We enjoyed it at a charming café for about CHF 15. Don’t forget to try the local cheese, which can be found in most shops; a small selection is around CHF 10.
For a memorable night’s stay, we highly recommend Hotel Eichen, located just a stone’s throw from the village center. The hotel offers cozy rooms with stunning views of the lake and mountains, priced at approximately CHF 150 per night. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the breakfast spread featuring local delicacies was a fantastic way to start our days.
Getting to Iseltwald is easy, as it’s accessible by train and bus from major cities like Interlaken. We suggest taking the scenic train ride to enjoy the picturesque landscape. The village is small, so walking is the best way to explore.
When planning your visit, keep in mind that summer is the peak season, so booking accommodations in advance is recommended. For the best experience, aim for a visit between late spring and early fall, when the weather is warm and the flowers are in full bloom.
Iseltwald truly captivated our hearts with its charm and beauty. We hope you’ll consider this hidden gem for your next adventure! Happy travels, Lykkers!
